I am a PhD candidate in Political Science at the University of Houston. My research interests include migration politics and policy, local politics, and race, ethnicity, and politics. My dissertation focuses on the impacts of urban immigrant inclusion policies on the participation and civic engagement of immigrant and minoritized communities. I have presented work on immigrant inclusion in urban politics, the effects of policy on anti-immigrant sentiment, and the international diffusion of sophisticated migrant tracking methods. My work has been published in the British Journal of Political Science and East European Politics and Societies.
Before pursuing my graduate studies, I worked in the non-profit sector, where I represented low-income and vulnerable migrants in their immigration matters at BakerRipley. As part of my work with BakerRipley, I also worked to establish Deportation Defense Houston, which provided detained immigrants in the Houston area with free legal representation in their immigration court proceedings. I completed my Bachelor’s in English and History at Rice University. Through my work, I hope to produce research in service of creating more compassionate and effective migration policies and help build thriving communities.
